It is time to rediscover your website

Website Tips
With the recent downtime related to the Coronavirus, a lot of organizations are rediscovering their website and investing time into focusing on their digital presence. Here are some tips on what you can do to make the most of your online presence during a time of crisis.

1. Highlight your coronavirus response on your home page – It is important to communicate to your key audiences how you are responding and what the impact is to your organization. If you have not done this yet you should add a page to your website that outlines the steps that you have taken to mitigate COVID-19 impact within your organization and the steps you are taking to respond and continue to provide the services that you offer. This is a page that you will want to update regularly as new information becomes available and make sure to link it to your main navigation or add a section on your home page so that it is easy to locate.

2. Use your blog as a diary to your story or the stories of people that you care for – There is a lot of content that can be mined in times of crisis and using your blog to post regular updates is a great way to share stories of success, stories of need and general updates that are relevant to the people and community that you serve. Also, do not be afraid to utilize video in sharing updates as the visual medium of video can carry a lot of weight in telling stories of impact and need.

3. Make an appeal and give it priority position throughout the site – Now is the time to leverage the power of your website to activate those that can help. You know what your greatest needs are right now, and you need to make sure that you highlight them above the fold in your home page slider, blog posts, and throughout the website. Do not leave a stone unturned because now more then ever people are turning to the web to seek new information and you need to make sure “your ask” is prominent throughout the entire website.

4. Engage on Social Media and get them to your website – Social Media is a great way to engage but donor conversion should take place on your website. Your social media accounts are rented space and the information gathered there does not belong to you. Your goal needs to be to get potential donors to your website where specifically crafted donate pages and web forms can either convert or capture information for later use.

5. Build your email list – I mentioned it earlier and I will say it again but people are jumping on to the web to seek out new information on how the Coronavirus is affecting their community. One of the most important things that you can do right now is to utilize your coronavirus response updates, blog posts and social engagement to build your email list. Incorporate a newsletter sign up or contact form throughout your website so that you can build up an important asset for your organization that can be tapped into now and in the future. Having a large email list will future proof your organization the next time a crisis or time of need comes around again.
