our favorite fundraising idea
A lot of organizations are facing a significant deficit right now because of lost revenue from canceled fundraising events or the inability to engage people face to face. The lack of in-person fundraising opportunities is forcing a lot of organizations to get creative in how they fundraise in a virtual world. To help inspire your creativity and get you back in gear we cover some of our favorite and easy fundraising ideas that can be done virtually and without spending too much time and money to get started.

Our 5 Favorite Virtual Fundraising Ideas

1) Giving Days – You don’t have to wait until GivingTuesday to have a day of giving that benefits your cause. A Giving Day is a featured day on your calendar that represents a day of significance for your organization. Examples of a Giving Day could be the day that your nonprofit was founded, the day a successful program was launched, or a day that spotlights a person that is important to your organization. Use this day to commemorate an important event, person or program, and create a call to action for people to donate in honor of your important day.

2) Donate the Day Fundraiser – If you are looking for a quick and easy fundraiser that people love then the Donate The Date Fundraiser is going to be your best bet. Here is how it works; you pick a day and ask your supports to donate an amount that matches the numeric value of the date that you picked.

For an Earth Day fundraiser, donors are encouraged to make donations in the amount of either $4.22, $42.20, or $422. Donate the Date Fundraisers are a great way to highlight an important day and generate meaningful donations quickly.

3) In Honor or In Memory of Fundraiser – In Honor Fundraisers are a way to encourage supporters of your organization to create fundraising pages in honor or in memory of a loved one or someone special. This is an especially effective fundraiser if the person that is being honored was positively impacted your organization and would be an inspiration for others to get involved. An example of an In Honor of fundraiser would be one in which an individual created a peer-to-peer fundraising page in honor of a deceased family member.

4) Day Off Pay Off – This is a fun workplace fundraiser that requires you to reach out to a business or business owner that supports your organization and enlist them into encouraging their employees to create peer-to-peer fundraising pages in support of your organization. The employer then sets a pre-determined fundraising goal and rewards employees with a vacation day when they reach their fundraising goal.

This fundraiser is a win-win for everyone involved. Your organization raises money and builds a relationship with the participating employees. The employees gain extra time off and the employer increases their support of your organization and build morale with their employees.

5) Battle of Businesses – This type of fundraiser allows your organization to benefit from some healthy competition among supporting businesses. The way that it works is that local businesses set up peer-to-peer fundraising pages and they compete against each other to see who can raise the most money in support of your organization.

The first business to reach the designated fundraising goal wins and is crowned the annual fundraising KING for your organization. Battle of Business fundraising is a great way for the participating businesses to generate some positive PR and your organization and cause get highlighted.

After you settle on the type of fundraiser you want to have you will need to promote it through your social media networks and by sending out email blasts to all of your subscribers. It is important that all communications include a link to your fundraising landing page, donate page, and sign-up forms so people know where to go, what to do, and when it starts.
